Andrea Lumplecker works at the intersection of artistic, curatorial and mediating practices. Together with Yasmina Haddad, she is part of the collective and off space' school, which the two have been running together in Vienna since 2011. Since 2021 Andrea Lumplecker has been the head of Klasse für Alle, the continuing education project of the University of Applied Arts Vienna.
Andrea's artistic practice often begins with objects, leads to photography and ends with learning, assemblies, interventions (environment). Intersectionality is always important: ideas rooted in (queer)feminist theory, anti-colonial practice, ecology and everyday action connect across the boundaries of conceptuality, collective practice, activism and assemblage(1), and the objects, settings, reading groups, dj sets and lectures become footnotes of thought, desire and affect.
Since 2011, the space in which these processes can be expressed in collective expansion has been the off space school: a place, an institution, a series of facilities, a situation, a circumstance, an attitude or a constellation of relationships for the transmission of acquired, invented and accumulated knowledge, experience and insight from one generation to another ... perhaps a school or the idea of a school as a condition of learning, of openness to discourse and discovery, can also be seen as something that we carry with us, wherever we go, whatever we do. Since 2021, Andrea Lumplecker has been the head of the continuing education project at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, which she has named Klasse für Alle: This is aimed at all those who are interested in questioning, reshaping and re-enchanting(3) our society in its crises, and for whom learning together with people from a wide range of backgrounds - of all - in cooperation is important.
deep listening(4) is in turn the starting point of Lumplecker's composting dj sets, of composting in general, but also a prerequisite for writing, making and combining objects - the circle is complete. All together, this makes my humus, escaping human-centeredness.(5) Thinking with Donna Haraway, embodying the practice of feminist speculative fabulation, I compost my soul in this hot pile.
Andrea was born in Upper Austria, lived in Vienna, Salzburg and New York and has been living in Vienna again since 2004.
